i am an elephant

in the circus.

the crowd loved me,

but they never knew my story.



my trainer loved me at first,

but abused me with hooks.

the pain

of watching my one true love

scar me,

broke my heart.

no one cared.

i fell to the floor,

and felt like dying.

the wounds healed slowly,

but never all the way.

they slowly ate my skin away.

no one cared.

in the cage

i was not free.

i was confined

with no way out.

disease infected my insides.

no one cared.

but when i was old,

my trainer left me.

i was free,

but no one loved me.

until spring rolled around.

i found my true love,

a zoo.

i thought

my caretaker loved me.

but im not sure

if he felt the same.

he fed me, and played with me daily.

but then, the love

felt like it was fading.



and no one cared.
